Meet Shana

Hi there! I’m Shana and I’m a Licensed Individual and Family Therapist. I feel lucky to love what I do every day – helping adolescents and young adults with anxiety, stress, and relationship challenges. I also have expertise in helping individuals and families with life transitions, separation and divorce, family communication, depression, and loss.

How I Can Help

All of us can use a little support and encouragement sometimes – I know that has been true for me in my life. In particular, adolescence and young adulthood can be a very difficult time. I help my clients learn they do not have to navigate this stage of life alone, while instilling confidence in them and their ability to face challenges head-on.

My approach to therapy involves creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment where every client feels empowered. I teach practical life skills – including mindfulness strategies – to help my clients learn how to take control of their stressors and challenges. I see myself as a guide, helping them gain insight into how to reach their goals. I also see myself as an interpreter, helping clients and their family members better understand one another to increase family cohesion. Overall, my goal is to equip my clients with skills to become more resilient and successful.

I have been working with adolescents and young adults for a decade in a variety of settings, including a private group practice, a public middle school, and an outpatient community-based clinic. I have served on the Faculty as a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Georgetown School of Medicine. I received a Master's degree in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University.

I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation, so you can see whether we might work well together. During the phone call, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and how I can help.

"Shana is a skilled clinician. The patients develop meaningful therapeutic alliances with her, and several have specifically conveyed to me how much she has helped them. She is compassionate, patient, understanding, and kind. It is easy to talk to and to work with her. Her knowledge and skill in psychotherapy provide an invaluable perspective to our trainees."
